Thank you. We here who consider ourselves part of the Penn State community our shell-shocked by the very negative reaction coming from every direction. Especially as it pertains to this strong condemnation of Joe Paterno and the Penn State football program.

As far as condemning the University itself for it's obvious and glaring attempt to contain a very nasty and scandalous activity internally,[aka] "a cover-up"; I think I can speak for the majority of "Us Penn Staters" and say we are disheartened and disgusted by their actions. No one I know has a problem with the firing of the Univ. Pres. Graham Spanier. And no one has a problem with the suspension of the A.D. Tim Curley and his co-hort Business Administrator Schultz. Fire them all by all means! Actually I think most people would like to see the Board of Trustees fired also over the way they have handled the whole scandal.

The rioting that occurred Wednesday night was due to the total outrage that the students and the rest of us "Penn State Proud" people felt over scapegoating Joe Paterno in the matter. Nobly, JoePa had stepped forward earlier in the day and had offered his resignation to become effective at the end of this football season. In other words he was ready to do a "mea culpa" and accept some responsibility for actions that he wasn't legally responsible for in any way. If the Board had accepted it, there would have been no angry mob rioting. But the Trustees obviously felt that they needed to pander to the press and fire the man who stands as a symbol of the University in hopes that that would satisfy the "general public's moral outrage" and remove any stigma that the University might face. They were wrong.

And I hope many alumni follow your advice and withold funding to the University. In fact, I hope they take it a step further and start cancelling their football season tickets poste-haste.

Thanks for this posting that has allowed me to vent my feelings about this whole mess. Sadly, I am no longer "Penn State Proud".
